Acting All the Way

Explore all the magic and mysteries in an actor's toolbelt during this skills and techniques class! Students will develop their acting skills by mixing and building upon all core elements of theatre: improvisation, ensemble-making, vocalization, movement, and creativity. Students will discover the answer to "what makes a good actor great?"

Big Idea:

Everyone can perform, create, and respond to theatre differently. As an actor, I can continue to grow and evolve as my theatre knowledge expands.

Skills learned:

  • Know and demonstrate how arts can communicate experiences, stories or emotions through the production of works in the arts.
  • Know and use the elements and principles of each art form to create works in the arts and humanities.

Music and Theatre Traditions

Dust off your thinking caps and get ready for fun! This theatre class will take students on a voyage to the beginning of time (for theatre, that is!). Through performance in music and drama, actors will explore the cultural traditions that have become commonplace in stage-life today and learn to become better and more confident performers.

Big Idea:

How can I reflect on and use original traditions of theatre to create new and exciting art of my own?

 

Skills learned:

  • Identify, explain and analyze historical and cultural differences as they relate to works in the art.
  • Identify, explain and analyze traditions as they relate to works in the arts (e.g., story telling - plays, oral histories- poetry, work songs- blue grass).

 

Broadway Bound

 

Grades: 3rd - 5th

Days: Saturdays 10:00-11:00am

Dates: 9/23/17-12/16/17 (No class 9/30 and 11/25)

Take the stage and groove your way into the world of musical theatre in this singing and dancing class. Actors will learn and rehearse choreography from musical theatre songs and dances, sing a variety of tunes, and work as an ensemble to perform in a showcase - all while learning history behind the music along the way!

How can I tell a story through musical theatre so that an audience can understand my character’s journey?

 

Skills learned:

  • Explain meanings in the arts and humanities through individual works and the works of others using a fundamental vocabulary
  • Use imagination and creativity to design and perform music and dance.
